March 21 is the 80th day of the year (81st in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar. 285 days remain until the end of the year.
Until 2015, Naw-Rúz (the Bahá’í New Year) was celebrated on March 21. Since then, however, new provisions regarding the standardization of the Badi calendar have come into use, decoupling that calendar from the Gregorian calendar; the date of Naw-Rúz now falls on whatever day the sun enters the constellation of Aries (this generally occurs on either March 20 or 21).

- 1798: Fatḥ-‘Alí Khán is crowned second Qájár Sháh during the Naw-Rúz festival.
- 1799: Fatḥ-‘Alí Sháh's son, ‘Abbás Mírzá (aged 9), is designated Crown Prince of Persia.
- 1847: En route to Tihrán, the Báb spends three nights in Káshán in the home of Hájí Mírzá Jání, a noted resident of that city who had realized in a dream that the Báb would be his quest.[1][2]
- 1909: The mortal remains of the Báb are laid to rest in the Shrine of the Báb after 59 years in hiding.[3]
- 1909: Opening of the first American Bahá’í Convention.
- 1910: The first issue of the Bahá'í News is published in Chicago.[4]
- 1932: The first Local Spiritual Assembly of Tokyo, consisting of journalists and other professional people, is formed.
- 1954: Shoghi Effendi announces that there are Bahá’ís in 219 countries.[5]
- 1958: The second Intercontinental Conference held at the mid-point of the Ten Year Crusade convenes in Sydney, Australia.[6]
- 1974: The Universal House of Justice launches the Five Year Plan.[7]
- 1979: The Universal House of Justice outlines the broad goals of the Seven Year Plan to he launched at Ridván 1979.[8]
- 1990: The first local spiritual assembly formed in Eastern Europe since the Second World War is elected in Cluj, Romania.[9]
- 1993: The Kitáb-i-Aqdas is released in English with commentary.
- 1993: The first Race Unity Award is presented by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of Canada.
- 2005: Payman Mohajer and Paul Lample are elected to vacancies on the Universal House of Justice. [10]
- 2008: The National Spiritual Assembly of Vietnam is re-elected after a lapse of some 33 years. [11]
