Kishenchand V. Khemani was an Indian-Singaporean Bahá’í who served as a National Spiritual Assembly and Auxiliary Board member in Indonesia and India.
Background[edit]
Khemani was from India but was living in Singapore as of the early 1950's. He became a Bahá’í after being introduced to the religion through the teaching efforts of Khodadad and Shirin Fozdar and became an active member of the early Singapore Bahá’í community.[1] In 1952 he was elected to the inaugural Local Spiritual Assembly of Singapore.[2]
Later in the 1950's Khemani pioneered to Indonesia,[2] and in 1957 he was elected to the inaugural National Spiritual Assembly of Southeast Asia which was responsible for administrating the Bahá’ís of Indonesia and neighboring countries.[3] He was appointed as an Auxiliary Board member for Asia in 1958 assigned the jurisdiction of Indonesia and also the surrounding area in the South Pacific.[4]
As of 1979 Khemani had moved to Maharashtra, India, where he was continuing to serve as an Auxiliary Board member. That year he visited the Caribbean assisting with teaching campaigns and proclamation activities in Trinidad and Guyana.[5][6] As of 1987 he had completed his service as an Auxiliary Board member and had been elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of India as chairman.[7]
