Rolf von Czékus is a Brazilian Bahá’í who has served as a Counselor for the Americas and as a member of the International Teaching Center.

Background[edit]

Czékus taught the Bahá’í Faith extensively to indigenous Brazilians in Bahia, Brazil, in the 1960's. As of 1968 he had moved to Blumenau in the state of Santa Catarina and he became the first person to proclaim the Bahá’í Faith to members of the Guarani tribe.[1] As of 1970 he was serving on the National Spiritual Assembly of Brazil.[2] By 1974 he had been appointed an Auxiliary Board member and in June that year he accompanied Hand of the Cause Abu’l-Qásim Faizí when he visited Bahá’í communities across Brazil.[3]

In October 1985 Czékus was appointed to serve as a Continental Counselor for the Americas by the Universal House of Justice.[4] In July 1988 he participated in a youth conference held to launch a mass teaching campaign in Paraiba State, Brazil.[5] In 1989 he represented the Universal House of Justice at the formation of the National Spiritual Assembly of Guinea-Bissau,[6] and in December 1989 he participated in a memorial conference held to commemorate the passing of Raḥmatu’lláh Muhájir held in Quito, Ecuador.[7]

Czékus was appointed for additional five year terms as Counselor in 1990,[8] and 1995,[9] and in 1998 he was appointed to the International Teaching Center.[10] He was appointed for a second term on the International Teaching Center in 2003.[11]
