Dr. Penny Walker is an American Bahá’í who pioneered to Nepal and later served on the International Teaching Center.[1]

Background[edit]

As of 1972 Walker was serving on the Local Spiritual Assembly of South Hadley, Massachusetts.[2] In 1975 she attended a Pioneer Training Institute in Wilmette,[3] and that year she pioneered to Nepal from the United States with her husband, David.[4] In October 1977 she spoke at the Asian Bahá’í Women's Conference held in New Delhi, India.[5] The Walker's lived in Kathmandu for many years and Penny served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Nepal as Secretary. In 1990 Hand of the Cause Collis Featherstone conducted deepening classes in the Walker's home during his visit to Nepal during which he passed away and his body was prepared for burial in the Walkers home.[6]

In May 1998 the Universal House of Justice appointed Walker to the International Teaching Center and she moved to the Holy Land to serve in the role.[7] In 2001 she participated in the opening of the Terraces of the Shrine of the Báb in the Holy Land,[8] and a Ruhi Conference in Montreal, Canada.[9] In early 2002 she visited Panama to attend a conference for all Auxiliary Board members in Central America, and then visited the United States in February visiting Chicago, Illinois, to speak at Conference for the Auxiliary Board members of North America,[10] and Houston, Texas.[11] In October 2003 she visited Ottawa, Canada, to consult on the progress of the community.[12] In 2008 she opened the Tenth International Convention.[13]

In 2013 Walker completed her service on the International Teaching Centre. As of 2020 she was in the United States and that year she shared reminiscences of the late Violette Haake at a memorial gathering at the Wilmette Temple.[14]
