- Work begins on the restoring the north wing of the House of ‘Abdu’lláh Páshá.[1]
- April 22: The government of Israel officially recognizes the Bahá’í Faith as an organized religious community in Israel, the Bahá’í World Centre as its international administrative centre, and the Universal House of Justice as its Supreme Institution, at a ceremony attended by Israel's Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and Donald Barrett the Secretary-General of the Bahá’í International Community.[2]
- September 15: The Bahá’í community of Lesotho is awarded a United Nations Peace Messenger Award for its involvement in peace activities.[3]
- October 3: The Bahá’í Faith becomes the sixth world religion to join the Network On Conservation and Religion of the World Wide Fund for Nature.
- November 27 - 29: An International Conference on External Affairs is held in Langenhain, Germany, at the direction of the Universal House of Justice which is attended by the members of many European National Spiritual Assemblies.[4]
