- A weekly ten minute Bahá’í radio programme begins being broadcast in Rwanda.[1]
- February 2 - February 5: The first Bahá’í Winter School of Turkey is held in Iskenderun with 125 people attending and four declarations occurring.[2]
- March: The Faith is proclaimed extensively in Marseilles, France, as a result of activities undertaken to commemorate ‘Abdu’l-Bahá's visit to the city.[3]
- March: The Bahá’í International Community establishes an Office of Public Information in Hong Kong.[4]
- June: The Universal House of Justice establishes a Bahá’í Committee for China.[4]
- June 28: The British Ambassador to Israel visits the Bahá’í World Centre.[5]
- July: A meeting is held in Bolivia for consultation on the development of the Faith among indigenous peoples in Latin America which is attended by representatives of eight countries.[6]
- July: Five hundred people become Bahá’ís in Bolivia following a one week teaching project.[7]
- July: The Universal House of Justice tasks National Spiritual Assemblies with eliminating illiteracy in their Bahá’í communities through education.[8]
- August: The Landegg Academy launches its Certificate Programme in Bahá’í Studies.[9]
- September: The Universal House of Justice assigns National Spiritual Assemblies short-term pioneering goals to be measured by months of pioneer service.[10]
- October: A European Bahá’í Youth Council is established at the suggestion of the Universal House of Justice.[11]
- November 12: The Bahá’í community of El Salvador holds a celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the the Bahá’í Faith in the country with the first pioneer to El Salvador, John Eichenauer, attending.[12]
- December 2: The Bahá’í community of Cuba holds a celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Bahá’í Faith in the country at its National Centre in Havana.[12]
