The Republic of El Salvador is a Central American country. Its official language is Spanish and the predominant religion is Christianity.
The region has ben inhabited since prehistory. It was conquered by the Spanish Empire in the 16th century and was a colony from 1524 until achieving independence in 1821. It was incorporated into the First Mexican Empire by force for a short time in 1823 but joined the Federal Republic of Central America later in the year before becoming an independent nation again in 1841.
The Bahá’í community of the country was established in the 1940's.

The first Bahá’í to pioneer to El Salvador was John Eichenauer who arrived in the country in 1939 and Luis Perez became the first Salvadoran Bahá’í in San Salvador the same year.[2]
