The Dominican Republic is a country on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles. The Dominican Republic holds 5/8 of the island it shares with Hiti to the west and has a maritime border with Puerto Rico on the East. The capital city is Santo Domingo.[2]

Bahá’í History[edit]

Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, is referred to twice in the Tablets of the Divine Plan as a country that needed to be settled by the Bahá’ís.[3]

In 1951, the National Spiritual Assembly of Central America, Mexico, and the Antilles included the Dominican Republic as one of the countries in its jurisdiction to by consolidated.[4]

In 1957, the National Assembly of Central America, Mexico and the Antilles was split into the National Assembly of Central America and Mexico and the National Assembly of the Greater Antilles. The Jurisdiction of the National Assembly of the Greater Antilles included the countries of Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.[5]

In 1961, the National Spiritual Assembly of the Dominican Republic was formed.[6]

In 1964 at the beginning of the Nine Year Plan (1964-1973) the Dominican Republic seven Assemblies, eight groups or isolated centers and a single incorporated Assembly. They were given to goal of establishing fifteen Assemblies, Bahá’ís in 45 localities total and having six incorporated Assemblies.[7]
