The British Virgin Islands are a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. The major islands of the territory are Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke.

History[edit]

The territory was opened to the Bahá'í Faith in July 1968 by David Morris and Frank Paccassi who visited Jost Van Dyke and Tortola from the U.S. Virgin Islands. Four Jost Van Dyke locals converted during their teaching trip.[2][3] A second teaching trip to Jost Van Dyke took place in September 1968 with three more locals converting.[4] The first teaching trip to Anegada was made by Elizabeth Thomas, an American Bahá'í, in 1973.[5]

The territories Bahá'í community was administrated by the Regional Spiritual Assembly of Leeward, Windward & Virgin Islands from 1967, the National Spiritual Assembly of the Leeward & Virgin Islands from 1972, and the National Spiritual Assembly of the Virgin Islands from 1981.[6] The first Local Spiritual Assembly in the territory was established on Tortola in 1978.[7]
