Clipperton

Cliperton Island, als known as Clipperton Atoll and previously as Clipperton's Rock, is an uninhabited French coral atoll in the eastern Pacific Ocean about 1,280 km (690 miles) from Acapulco, Mexico. It has a total area of 8.9 sq km (3.4 sq mi). The island has remained uninhabited except for a period between 1905 to 1917 when Mexico established a small military colony and 1944 to 1945 when the United States established a weather station there. Since then, there have been a few scientific expeditions to the island.
