Persecution of Bahá’ís in Iran[edit]
- February 25: At the request of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and then-President of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the Iranian Supreme Revolutionary Cultural Council (ISRCC) issues a confidential memorandum on the "Bahá’í question", specifically calling for Iran’s Bahá’ís to be treated in such a way “that their progress and development are blocked,” providing conclusive evidence that the campaign against the Bahá’ís is centrally directed by the Iranian government.
