Soroush Jabbari

Soroush Jabbari (September 11, 1942 - March 3, 1987) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.

Biography[edit]

Jabbari was born into a Bahá’í family in Saysan in 1942. The family moved to Miyaneh in the early 1940's where the local populace was hostile to the Bahá’í Faith and he experienced persecution in his youth. In 1958 he moved to Tehran to complete his studies and after graduating high school he began working as a draftsman for a construction company, ultimately becoming director of the drawing section.[1]

When the Iranian Revolution began in 1979 Jabbari was dismissed from his position with the construction company. In 1983 the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran was dissolved at the order of the government and Jabbari was appointed to a Bahá’í committee formed to assist Bahá’ís across Iran following the dissolution of the Assembly.[1]

Jabbari was arrested on September 15, 1984, along with five members of the Bahá’í committee. He was imprisoned for two and a half months before his family learnt that he was being held in Gohardasht prison. He was later transferred to Evin prison where he was executed by hanging on March 3, 1987. His body was not returned to his family for burial.[1]
