Coverage of the Baha'i Faith in Time Magazine
Time magazine began publication in 1923 and has mentioned the Bahá'í Faith or something clearly related to it some 52 times from 1924 to 2013.[1] Most of them are brief like in a list of religions. However some are more extensive.
Substantial mention[edit]
Where mention is more than two sentences, some range from a paragraph to the substance of the article in general. Here is a brief review:
- Issue 1924-03-03; "Religion- May 23, 1844" (basic review of history)[2]
- Issue 1930-03-10; "Religion- Bahai Bride" (about a marriage overseen by Ahmad Sohrab)[3]

- Issue 1955-06-06; "Religion- Heretics in Islam" (about persecution in Iran)[7]
- Issue 1957-12-09; "Religion- In the Hands of the Hands" (about the Baha'i Faith facing the passing of Shoghi Effendi)[8]
- Issue 1963-04-26; "Sects- We Love All Religions" (election of the Universal House of Justice with review of history)[9]
- Issue 1980-05-26; "Religion- Unholy War" (about persecution in Iran)[10]

Interesting things about minor mentions[edit]
Dizzy Gillespie's story[17] doesn't qualify because the only mention is that he is a Baha'i. Vic Damone's mention only gets past one sentence on the Faith by refering to a quasi-Islamic group and his marriage vows.[18] Rainn Wilson makes it because in quoting him about the "Last Mimzy" he managed to get two sentences referring to the religion.
Additionally, though there are other stories about the situations in Iran, there are about equal numbers that mention the Faith briefly vs substantially in this connection.[19]
Life magazine[edit]
Life magazine, later merged with Time magazine, mentioned the Baha'i Faith in one article entitled "Baha'i" in the Dec 11, 1950 issue[20] in the Google magazine's cache covering Nov 23, 1936 to Dec 29, 1972.[21] Note it used its own editorial standards and presented pictures of images of the Manifestation and confused stations by lining up a picture of Abdu'l-Baha with Them though the text clarifies this.
Newsweek[edit]
Apparently Newsweek, in publication since 1933, has only twice mentioned the Baha'i Faith - one reviewing religion on the web[22] and once in a story about prison access to religious scripture.[23]
Businessweek[edit]
Apparently Businessweek, recently renamed Bloomberg Businessweek, in publication since 1929 , has an online archive only going back to 1991[24] but has mentioned the Faith about a dozen times, most of them in 2013. See Coverage of the Bahá'í Faith in Businessweek.
