Hartmut Grossmann (1933 - 17 December 2017) was a German Bahá’í who served on the Universal House of Justice, the supreme governing body of the Bahá’í Faith, from 2003 to 2008.

Biography[edit]

Grossmann was born in Germany, his father was Hand of the Cause Hermann Grossmann. He was separated from his parents by the Nazi regime for a time in his childhood, but they were reunited after the end of World War II.[1] In his studies he achieved academic qualifications in the German and English languages. He served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Germany from 1963 to 1969 and the National Assembly of Finland from 1977 to 1980, working as a lecturer and head of the German Department of the Translators Training Institute at Joensuu University in Savonlinna while in Finland.[2]

Grossmann was appointed a Continental Counsellor in 1980, advising Bahá’í communities throughout Europe in their growth and development, and served in the role until 1988 when he was appointed to the International Teaching Center. In 2003 he was elected to the Universal House of Justice, [3] and he served on the body until 2008.[4] He returned to Finland after retiring from service in the Holy Land.[5]

Grossmann passed away in Germany on the 17th of December, 2017.[6]
