Ninth International Convention

The Ninth International Convention, scheduled to take place at the Bahá'í World Centre in April and May of 2003, was cancelled owing to current world events at the time. In its Ridván message for that year, the Universal House of Justice wrote, "When the Major Plan of God interferes with His Minor Plan, there should be no doubt that in due course a way will providentially be opened to an opportunity of stellar possibilities for advancing the interests of His glorious Cause."
Despite the cancellation of the Convention, the election of the Universal House of Justice was carried out successfully, and Hartmut Grossmann and Firaydoun Javaheri were elected to serve. The election took place via absentee ballots, with over 96 per cent of the 1,602 eligible delegates taking part; 19 tellers came to the World Centre from various countries to tally the votes.
