Eighth International Convention

The Eighth International Convention held to elect the Universal House of Justice was held from April 29 to May 2, 1998.
Summary[edit]
The Eighth International Convention was attended by over 1,100 delegates representing representing 161 National Spiritual Assemblies.[1] Delegates were able to arrive up to five days before the start of the Convention to visit the Shrines and other Holy Places.[2] The Convention was opened with an address by Rúḥíyyih Khánum.[3]
Consultations during the Convention covered the promotion of integrated patterns of community development, the education of children, moral development, elevating the status of women, and relations with non-governmental organizations and national and international institutions, as well as those issues of concern to individual Bahá'ís such as the importance of personal responsibility and the impact of prayer.[1] Consultations were held with two microphones being present in the main hall for delegates to share concerns and delegates each had a headset to allow for simultaneous translation. The Convention notably had a much larger number of indigenous peoples serving as delegates than previous conventions.[2]
