1850 was a common year of the Gregorian calendar and a common year of the Julian calendar, the 1850th year of the Common Era (CE), the 50th year of the 19th century, and the 1st year of the 1850s decade. As of the start of 1850, the Gregorian calendar was 12 days ahead of the Julian calendar, which remained in localized use until 1923. 1850 corresponds to the years 6–7 of the Bahá'í Era (BE) according to the Badi calendar.

Barracks square where the Báb was Martyred
  • January: Vahíd leaves Yazd after clashing with the authorities. He travels across Fárs teaching the Bábí religion.
  • January 15: Mullá Ádí-Guzal completes his pilgrimage to the graves of Mullá Husayn and Quddús on the behalf of the Báb.
  • February 19: Seven prominent Bábís are executed in Tihrán on false charges of treason. Their bodies are left in a public square for three days.
  • May 13: A fight between children escalates into an upheaval against the Bábís in Zanján.
  • May 19: The Governor of Zanján sends a mob against the Bábís, who are being led by Ḥujjat. This mob is dispersed and the Governor sends for reinforcements. Fighting continues for the rest of the year.
  • May 27: Vahíd arrives in Nayríz. He proclaims the Báb's mission in a Mosque, which results in the Governor taking action against him. Vahíd and a group of Bábís are besieged in the fort of Khájih.
  • June: The Báb is taken from Chihríq to Tabríz on the orders of Mírzá Taqí Khán, who intends to have Him executed. The Báb had given His writings, pen cases, seals and agate rings to Mullá Báqir and instructed him to deliver them to Bahá'u'lláh forty days before He was moved.
  • June 17: The Governor of Nayríz calls a truce with Vahíd and writes a promise of safety on the Qur'án, assuring Vahíd safety if he leaves the fort. Vahíd leaves the fort of Khájih and meets with the Governor in his siege camp.
  • June 21: Vahíd signs a document informing the Bábís that an agreement had been reached, and that they could leave the fort. Dishonoring the Governor's promise, the Bábís are killed after leaving the fort, and Vahíd is executed eight days later.
  • June 23: The heads of thirteen Bábís who had been martyred at Nayríz are paraded through the streets of Shíráz on lances.
  • July 8: The Báb is taken to the barracks of Tabriz on foot. Mírzá Muhammad-‘Alíy-i-Zunúzí, known as Anís, throws himself at the Báb's feet and asks to accompany Him.
  • July 9: The Báb is martyred by firing squad. The first attempt is unsuccessful, with the Báb disappearing, and being found completing a letter with His secretary. A second firing squad had to be employed, as the first refused to make another attempt. Anís is martyred with the Báb by the second firing squad. Their bodies are thrown on the banks of a moat surrounding Tabriz.
  • July 10: A sketch of the body of the Báb is drawn for the Russian Consul.
  • July 11: The remains of Anís and the Báb are retrieved and taken to a silk factory. They are reported to have been eaten by dogs.
  • November: Ḥujjat sends only elderly men and children out of the fortifications in Zanján after agreeing to a peace treaty with the besieging forces, as he knew that the royal forces had violated the terms of surrender of the Bábís at Tabarsí and Nayríz. The children and elderly are arrested.
  • December: Ḥujjat is wounded in battle, and the royal troops overrun the Bábí fortifications. One hundred women and children are taken captive and kept without food, shelter or appropriate clothing. Aprroximately 140 Bábís take shelter in Ḥujjat's home. Ḥujjat's wife and infant child are killed during bombardment of the house and he succumbs to his injuries.

  • June 29: Vahíd, a prominent Bábí who accepted the Báb after being sent to investigate His claims on behalf of the Shah of Iran. He was beheaded in Nayríz, and his body was dragged through the streets.
  • July 9: The Báb, Manifestation of God. He was martyred in Tabriz.
  • December 29: Ḥujjat, a prominent Bábí.
