1851 was a common year of the Gregorian calendar and a common year of the Julian calendar, the 1851st year of the Common Era (CE), the 51st year of the 19th century, and the 2nd year of the 1850s decade. - Mullá Zaynu'l-'Abidín becomes a Bábí in Najafábád. He was designated an Apostle of Bahá’u’lláh by Shoghi Effendi.
- January 2: Zanján upheaval comes to an end, with the Bábís being imprisoned.
- March 2: Four Bábís imprisoned in Zanján are executed in Tihrán.
- June: Mírzá Taqí Khán meets with Bahá'u'lláh in Tihrán, and suggests that He should leave the city. Bahá'u'lláh set out for Karbalá to make pilgrimage a few days later.
- August 28: Bahá'u'lláh stayed in Kirmánsháh for most of August, and arrived in Karbalá via Baghdád on the 28th. He stayed in Karbalá for ten months.
- October 5: Shaykh Ḥasan-i-Zunúzí, a prominent Bábí who had served as the Báb's amanuensis in Chihríq, meets with Bahá'u'lláh in Karbalá.
- December: Fáṭimih Bagum, the mother of the Bab, moves to Karbalá to live with relatives after hearing of the Martyrdom of the Báb.

- April 30: Mullá Hasan-i-Fadíl, a Bábí, was executed in Yazd after refusing to recant his Faith.
- May 1: Áqá Husayn, a Bábí, was executed by being blown from a cannon in Yazd.
- July 23: Áqá Muhammad-Sádiq-i-Yúzdárán, a Bábí, was beaten to death in Yazd after refusing to recant his Faith.
- August 4: Áqá ‘Alí-Akbar-i-Hakkák, a Bábí, was executed by being blown from a cannon in Yazd after refusing to recant his Faith.
- November: Siyyid Basír-Hindí, a blind Indian Bábí, was executed.
