  • January 31: The Universal House of Justice takes up its permanent seat.
  • April 29 - May 2: The Fifth International Convention.
  • May 19: The Universal House of Justice raises the number of Counselor members on the International Teaching Center to nine appointing the following new members and introducing five year terms of service to the body[1]:
    • Magdalene Carney
    • Mas’ud Khamsi
    • Peter Khan
    • Isobel Sabri
  • June 4 - 5: Bahá’í Conference Center in Landegg, Switzerland, inaugurated.[2]
  • July: An International Bahá’í Youth Conference is held in Innsbruck, Austria, and attended by 1,500 Bahá’ís from forty countries.[3]
  • November: Concreting of the dome of the Samoa House of Worship completed.[4]
  • November: The Bahá’í Faith is granted tax exempt status in Argentina.[5]

  • May 1: Two Bahá’ís are executed in Isfahan, Iran.[6]
  • June 16: Six Bahá’ís are executed by hanging in Shiraz, Iran.[6]
  • June 18: Ten Bahá’í women are executed by hanging in Shiraz.[7]
  • August 29: Bahá'í administration and community activities are declared illegal in Iran with membership of a Spiritual Assembly becoming a criminal offence.[8]
