Suhayl Safá’í

Suhayl Safá’í (February 21, 1949 - May 1, 1983) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in the wake of the 1979 Revolution in Iran.
Biography[edit]
Safá’í was born in Ábádih in 1949.[1] He completed his high school education in Isfahán before completing his military service.[1] He then studied literature at Tehran University and after graduating began managing a plant in Isfahán for the Bahá’í owned Zamzam Company.[2]
In 1979 after the revolution ownership of the Zamzam Company was seized by the new regime and all of its employees were dismissed so Safá’í opened a stationary shop to support his wife and two young sons. He was an active Bahá’í and facilitated Bahá’í youth classes in Isfahán and began compiling a Bahá’í Encyclopedia.[2]
In October 1982 Safá’í was arrested and his notes regarding his encyclopedia project and the large number of Bahá’í books he owned were used as evidence of his Bahá’í activity. He was tortured during his imprisonment before being executed on May 1, 1983. His family was not informed of his execution until ten days later and his will, notes, and Bahá’í books were not returned to his family.[2]
