Biography[edit]

Sabri was born Isobel Locke in Fresno, California, but grew up in Burlingame and San Mateo. She attended Stanford University and graduated in International Relations and Journalism in 1946. She heard of the Baháʼí Faith from Farrukh Ioas while at Stanford and declared on June 8, 1945, at Geyserville Summer School.

In 1946 she pioneered to Edinburgh, Scotland, and in 1948 she was elected to Edinburgh's inaugural Local Spiritual Assembly. She married Hassan Sabri in 1951 and they pioneered to Africa together settling in Dar es Salaam in Tanganyika remaining there until pioneering again to Uganda in 1953. In April 1957 she went on pilgrimage to the Holy Land and met Shoghi Effendi.[2]

During her time in Africa Sabri served on the Local Spiritual Assemblies of Dar es Salaam, Kampala, Masaka, and Kyambogo, the National Spiritual Assembly of Central and East Africa, and the Auxiliary Board from 1965 until 1968 when she was appointed a Continental Counselor. In 1973 the Sabri's moved to Kenya living there until 1983 when Isobel was appointed to the International Teaching Center and they moved to the Holy Land.

She passed away in 1992 while still serving on the International Teaching Center, having suffered from a chronic intestinal illness since she was just nineteen years old. The Universal House of Justice cabled the following after her passing:
