American Samoa is an unincorporated territory of the United States located in the Polynesia region of the Pacific Ocean located northeast of New Zealand. American Samoa consists of the eastern part of the Samoan archipelago. It includes the inhabited volcanic islands of Tutuila, Aunu'u, Ofu, Olosega and Ta'ū as well as some uninhibited islands. It became self-governing in 1967 with the adoption of a constitution but is still governed by the United States.[2]
History[edit]
The National Spiritual Assembly of Samoa was formed in 1970 and includes American Samoa and the independent country of Samoa. Hand of the Cause Collis Featherstone attended the first Samoan National Convention.[3]
The Bahá'í Faith treats the whole of the Somoan Archipelago as a single entity. Further history is available under the article for Samoa.
