1891 was a common year of the Gregorian calendar and a common year of the Julian calendar, the 1891st year of the Common Era (CE), the 91st year of the 19th century, and the 2nd year of the 1890s decade. As of the start of 1891, the Gregorian calendar was 12 days ahead of the Julian calendar, which remained in localized use until 1923. 1891 corresponds to the years 47–48 of the Bahá'í Era (BE) according to the Badi calendar.

  • The Kitáb-i-Aqdas is published in Arabic for the first time in Bombay.
  • Bahá'u'lláh reveals the Kitáb-i-`Ahd, in which He appoints ‘Abdu’l-Bahá as His successor.
  • Bahá'u'lláh reveals the Epistle to the Son of the Wolf.
  • An English translation of A Traveller's Narrative made by Edward Granville Browne is published by Cambridge University Press.
  • February 15: Edward Granville Browne gives a talk on the Bahá'í Faith at the Southplace Institute in London.
  • May 19: Seven Bahá'ís are executed in Yazd.
  • May: Bahá'u'lláh reveals a Tablet addressed to the London Times.
  • June 27: Bahá'u'lláh visits Haifa for three months. He pitches His tent on Mount Carmel and identifies the sites where the Shrine the Báb and a Mashriqu'l-Adhkár should be built during this visit.
