- Hájí Ákhúnd, Hájí Amín and Ibn-i-Abhar are arrested in Tihrán.
- The Bahá'í writings are published for the first time in Bombay and Cairo.
- Nabíl presents his manuscript, which later serves as the basis for the Dawn-Breakers to Bahá'u'lláh and ‘Abdu’l-Bahá.
- Ibrahim George Kheiralla becomes a Bahá'í. He later breaks the Covenant.
- February 25: The Sháh of Iran provides the Bahá'ís of Sidih a decree promising protection. They are murdered when they return to Sidih.
- April: Bahá'u'lláh visits Haifa, staying in the German Templer colony. Edward Granville Browne arrives in 'Akká while He is there.
- April 15: Edward Granville Browne meets Bahá'u'lláh at Bahjí. He is granted four interviews over the next five days.
