1846 was a common year of the Gregorian calendar and a common year of the Julian calendar, the 1846th year of the Common Era (CE), the 46th year of the 19th century, and the 7th year of the 1840s decade. As of the start of 1846, the Gregorian calendar was 12 days ahead of the Julian calendar, which remained in localized use until 1923. 1846 corresponds to the years 2–3 of the Bahá'í Era (BE) according to the Badi calendar.

- May: Siyyid Yahyá Dárábí, better known as Vahíd, meets with the Báb in Shíráz, having been sent by the Sháh of Iran to investigate the Báb's claims. He stays in Shíráz until July and meets with the Báb several times, eventually becoming a Bábí.[1]
- July: Vahíd arrives in Burújird and proclaims the Báb's mission.[2]
- September 11: Guards enter the House of the Báb in Shíráz with the intention of arresting Him for associating with the Bábís while under house arrest, but find no evidence of wrongdoing. Despite this the Governor of Shíráz has the Bábs Uncle beaten for allowing Bábís to meet with the Báb and the Báb is arrested and placed in the custody of ʿAbduʾl-Hamíd Khán, the Chief Constable of Shíráz.[3]
- September: The Báb reportedly cures the son of the Chief Constable of Shíráz of cholera, and is released at the request of the Constable on the condition that He leave Shíráz. He travels to Isfahán where He is hosted by the Cities Imám-Jum`ih. The Báb marries His second wife, Fátimih, while in Isfahán.
- November: Manúchihr Khán, the Governor of Isfahán arranges a meeting between the Báb and the clergy of Isfahán for the purpose of reconciling their differences. Approximately seventy clerics sign a death warrant calling for the Bábs execution after the meeting.
- November: The Sháh of Iran orders Manúchihr Khán to send the Báb to Tihran, but Khán delays following the order by having the Báb escorted from Isfahán and then secretly returned to his own home, allowing the Báb to remain in Isfahán for another four months.
