Battambang (Khmer: បាត់ដំបង; Batdâmbâng) is the capital city of Battambang province in northwestern Cambodia, and one of the major centres of activity for the Bahá'í Faith in the country. Founded in the 11th century by the Khmer Empire, the Battambang area is the leading rice-producing region of the country, and remains the hub of Cambodia's northwest, connecting the region with Phnom Penh and Thailand.

In January 2009, Battambang was the site of one of the 41 regional conferences of the Five Year Plan.[1] Later, in September 2013, the city hosted one of the 114 youth conferences held during the following Five Year Plan.[2] In its Ridván message of 2012, the Universal House of Justice announced that Battambang was selected as one of the first locations where a local House of Worship would be built. Construction of the House of Worship, designed by Cambodian architect Sochet Vitou Tang,[3] began in 2016 and proceeded rapidly; a dedication ceremony and official opening conference took place on September 1-2, 2017, attended by Cambodian dignitaries, locals, and representatives of Bahá'í communities throughout southeast Asia.[4][5]
