  • There are 182 National Spiritual Assemblies representing most of the countries of the planet.
  • January 9: The Universal House of Justice introduces the concept of a cluster in a message to the Conference of the Continental Boards of Counselors.[4]
  • April 21: Plans are announced to build a Bahá’í House of Worship in Santiago, Chile, the ninth and last continental House of Worship.[5]
  • May 22: The Terraces surrounding the Shrine of the Báb are officially opened at dusk, in the presence of some 3,000 Bahá’ís and over 600 guests, marking the completion of the projects on Mount Carmel.[6]

Deaths[edit]

  • December 3: Mosadegh Afshin Shokoufeh is murdered in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. It was determined that he was killed for his religious beliefs.
  • December 16: Philip Hainsworth, member of the National Spiritual Assemblies of the British Isles and the United Kingdom.
