1919 was a common year of the Gregorian calendar and a common year of the Julian calendar, the 1919th year of the Common Era (CE), the 19th year of the 20th century, and the 10th and last year of the 1910s decade. As of the start of 1919, the Gregorian calendar was 13 days ahead of the Julian calendar, which remained in localized use until 1923. 1919 corresponds to the years 75–76 of the Bahá'í Era (BE) according to the Badi calendar.

Events[edit]

  • The external decorative work of the House of Worship in 'Ishqabad is completed.
  • January 18: The Paris Peace Conference begins in Versailles. Ali Kuli Khan attends as a member of Persia’s Peace Delegation.[1]
  • February 22: The Publishing House of the German Bahá'í Federation is founded by eighteen Bahá'ís, succeeding the Self-Publishing of the Bahá'í Association.
Participants at the 11th American National Convention, known as the "Convention of the Covenant".
  • April 26-30: The "Convention of the Covenant" is held at the McAlpin Hotel in New York City.[2]
    • During the convention, a ceremony is held during which Mírzá Aḥmad Sohráb "unveils" ‘Abdu’l-Bahá's Tablets of the Divine Plan, whose transmission had been delayed due to World War I. The tablets are distributed in the form of pamphlets, complete with Sohráb's personal annotations, which he reads as he presents them to the Convention.[3][4]
    • At the end of the Convention Agnes Parsons, who had just returned from pilgrimage, informs the attendees that ‘Abdu’l-Bahá had instructed that a convention for racial unity be held.
  • November: W. H. Randall asks ‘Abdu’l-Bahá if he can contribute financially for the building of a Western Pilgrim House in the Holy Land, with plans being drawn and work beginning soon after.
  • December: The Tablet to The Hague is delivered to the Central Organisation for Durable Peace in the Hague by Ahmad Yazdání and Ibn-i-Asdaq.

Travel Teaching by Martha Root[edit]

  • July 22: Martha Root departs New York on the first of her many teaching trips.
  • August 4: Martha Root arrives in Para, Brazil.
  • September 19: Martha Root arrives in Montevideo, Uruguay, spending twelve hours in the city.
