1913 was a common year of the Gregorian calendar and a common year of the Julian calendar, the 1913th year of the Common Era (CE), the 13th year of the 20th century, and the 4th year of the 1910s decade. As of the start of 1913, the Gregorian calendar was 13 days ahead of the Julian calendar, which remained in localized use until 1923. 1913 corresponds to the years 69–70 of the Bahá'í Era (BE) according to the Badi calendar.

‘Abdu’l-Bahá's visit to Europe & Egypt[edit]

United Kingdom[edit]

  • January 5: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá gives a talk at Elizabeth Herrick's home in London.
  • January 6: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá travels from London to Edinburgh by train, leaving London in the morning and arriving at Edinburgh's Waverly Station in the afternoon. He stays at the home of Elizabeth Whyte in Edinburgh.
  • January 7: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá delivers a talk to the Esperanto Society in Edinburgh, his first speech in Scotland. He also visits Outlook Tower, an educational institution.
  • January 8: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá is given a tour of the Edinburgh College of Arts by the College President, and a tour of North Canongate School. He also delivers a talk at Rainy Hall, New College and attends a performance of Handel's Messiah at St. Gile's Cathedral.
  • January 9: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá delivers a talk to several hundred members of the Theosophical Society, delivers a second talk to a woman's group, visits John Duncan, a prominent painter, and visits the Forth Railway Bridge.
  • January 10: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá returns to London, leaving Edinburgh's Waverly station at 11 AM and arriving in Euston, London at 7 PM. He stays in the home of Lady Blomfield.
  • January 11: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá gives a talk at Caxton Hall in Westminster.
  • January 12: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá attends a dinner and delivers a talk at the home of Richard Shapely.
  • January 13: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá delivers a talk at the Cadogan Gardens.

  • January 18: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá meets with members of the British Muslim community and speaks at Shah Jehan Mosque in Woking, the first mosque built in England.
  • January 19: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá attends a luncheon at the home of Reverend Dr. R. J. Campbell, which is also attended by several clergymen.
  • January 20: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá attends a reception at the home of Dr. Felix Mosscheles, and a dinner held by a Rajput Prince. He delivers his last talk in London at the Higher Thought Centre.
  • January 21: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá departs London for Paris.

  • February 6: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá visits Versailles.
  • February 17: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá is interviewed by Pasteur Monnier.
  • March 30: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá departs Paris for Stuttgart, Germany.
  • April 7: Albert Schwarz drives ‘Abdu’l-Bahá to Bad Mergentheim from Stuttgart. They visit a hotel and mineral bath owned by Schwarz.
  • April 8: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá departs Stuttgart for Budapest, Hungary in the evening.
  • April 9: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá arrives in Budapest. He stays at the Ritz Hotel, and a press conference is held in the hotel lobby shortly after his arrival. The building was damaged during WW II. The Forum Hotel was built on the site and opened in 1981, It is now The InterContinental Budapest.
  • April 10: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá delivers a talk at a Theosophical Society meeting. Dr. Julius Germanus acts as a German translator.
  • April 11: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá delivers a talk at the old Parliament in Budapest, which was organized by members of the Peace Society and the Esperanto Association.
  • April 13: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá becomes ill, but visits the Royal Academy of Art in Budapest so that Professor Robert A. Nadler can paint his portrait. This portrait was taken to the Bahá'í World Centre in 1972.
  • April 14: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá had intended to depart Hungary, but delays his departure as Count Pal Teleki, future Prime Minister of Hungary, requests that he speak at a meeting of the Túránian Society.
  • April 15: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá's departure is further delayed due to severe cold weather.
  • April 18 - 19: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá leave Budapest and travels to Vienna by train. He stays at the Grand Hotel in Vienna.
  • April 24: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá departs Vienna for Stuttgart by train, arriving the following morning.
  • May 1: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá departs Stuttgart for Paris.
  • June 12: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá travels from Paris to Marseilles.
  • June 13: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá boards the S. S. Himalaya in Marseilles and sails to Port Said, Egypt.

Egypt[edit]

  • July 10: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá travels to Ismá`ílíyyah from Port Said.
  • July 17: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá travels to Ramleh.
  • July 23: Lua Getsinger arrives in Port Said.
  • August 1: Shoghi Effendi, his mother and Bahiyyih Khanum join ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in Egypt.
  • October 5: Daniel Jenkyn begins a two week trip through the Netherlands to teach the Faith, which is the first Bahá'í teaching trip to the country.
  • December 2: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá boards a Lloyd Triestino boat bound for Haifa.
  • December 5: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá arrives back in the Holy Land from his foreign tours.
