1914 was a common year of the Gregorian calendar and a common year of the Julian calendar, the 1914th year of the Common Era (CE), the 14th year of the 20th century, and the 5th year of the 1910s decade. As of the start of 1914, the Gregorian calendar was 13 days ahead of the Julian calendar, which remained in localized use until 1923. 1914 corresponds to the years 70–71 of the Bahá'í Era (BE) according to the Badi calendar.

Events[edit]

  • Husayn Uskuli arrives in Shanghai from 'Ishqábád with two other Bahá'ís, later being joined by his family.
  • January-February: Edward and Lua Getsinger undertake a teaching trip to India.
  • Spring: Laura and Hippolyte Dreyfus-Barney undertake a teaching trip to China and Indonesia which is cut short by the beginning of WWI.
  • June: George Jacob Augur visits Japan, making him the first Bahá’í to do so.
  • June 29: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá instructs all pilgrims in the Holy Land to return home.
  • August: Shoghi Effendi returns to Haifa from the Syrian Protestant College in Beirut where he had been studying.
  • September: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá has the Bahá’ís in Haifa move to Abú-Sinán.[1]
  • October: Shoghi Effendi returns to the Syrian Protestant College in Beirut to continue his studies.
  • November 4: The final Bahá’ís remaining in Haifa move to Abú-Sinán, bringing a box with Tablets and relics with them for safe-keeping.
  • November 6: Agnes Alexander arrives in Japan.
