- Bahá’u’lláh begins to reveal the Kitáb-i-Aqdas.
- Restoration of the House of the Báb begins at the request of His widow, Khadíjih Bagum. She takes up residence and serves as caretaker of the House when renovations are complete.
- January 22: Siyyid Muhammad-i-Isfahání and two other Azalís are murdered by Ustád Muhammad-`Alíy-i Salmání, Aqa Husayn-i-Ashchi, and five other Bahá’ís despite Bahá’u’lláh's instructions that no hostile actions were to be taken against the Azalís. The murderers are imprisoned for seven years, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá is chained in prison with twenty-five other innocent Bahá'ís and Bahá’u’lláh is interrogated and imprisoned for seventy hours.
- November/December: Munírih Khánum arrives in `Akká, having been sent for by Bahá’u’lláh. She is accommodated in Mírzá Músá's household.
