- January: Amínu’l-Bayán and Hájí Amín become the first Bahá’í pilgrims from outside ‘Akká to see Bahá'u'lláh, meeting with Him at a public bathhouse.
- February: Nabíl-i-A`zam makes a second unsuccessful attempt to meet with Bahá'u'lláh in ‘Akká.
- May 1: Nabíl-i-A`zam meets with Bahá'u'lláh in ‘Akká.
- July: Badí‘ request that he be the person to deliver Bahá’u’lláh’s Lawḥ-i-Sulṭán to Nasiri'd-Din Sháh of Iran. He successfully hands the Tablet to the Sháh, who has him arrested, tortured and executed.
- December 25: Two Bahá'ís are severely beaten by a mob in Fárán, Khurásán, Iran.
