- Bahá’u’lláh begins writing and sending his Tablets to the Kings.
- January 11: Three Bahá'ís are executed in Tabríz due to conflict with Azalís.
- March: Bahá'u'lláh returns to the house of Amru'lláh, as Mírzá Yahyá has left. He stays there for three months.
- April: A group of 53 Bahá’ís in Shushtar send a petition to the American Consulate in Beirut that is addressed to the Congress of the United States.
- June: Bahá'u'lláh moves to the house of ‘Izzat Áqá in Edirne.
- September: Mírzá Yahyá challenges Bahá’u’lláh to a public confrontation in the mosque of Sultán Salím. Bahá’u’lláh accepts, but Mírzá Yahyá does not appear at the appointed time.
- September: Nabíl-i-A‘zam is sent to inform and convince the Bábís in Iraq and Iran of Bahá’u’lláh's claims. Khadíjih Bagum, the wife of the Báb, accepts Bahá’u’lláh after meeting Nabíl.
