1865 was a common year of the Gregorian calendar and a common year of the Julian calendar, the 1865th year of the Common Era (CE), the 65th year of the 19th century, and the 6th year of the 1860s decade. As of the start of 1865, the Gregorian calendar was 12 days ahead of the Julian calendar, which remained in localized use until 1923. 1865 corresponds to the years 21–22 of the Bahá'í Era (BE) according to the Badi calendar.

- The Tablet of Ahmad is revealed by Bahá’u’lláh.
- Alexander Kasimovich Kazembek of St. Petersburg University, writing under the pseudonym "Mírzá Kazem-Beg", publishes Bab and Babis: Religious and political troubles in Persia (Баб и бабиды. Религиозно-политические смуты в Персии), the first Western book written entirely on the subject of the Bábí religion.[1]
- Arthur de Gobineau publishes Les religions et les philosophies dans l'Asie centrale, the first book offering a relatively extensive history of the Bábí religion. A third edition is printed in 1900, dedicating approximately 217 pages to the Bábí Faith.[2]
