Sanmoorgum Vasoo Mooten is a Mauritian Bahá’í who served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Mauritius and as an Auxiliary Board member.
Biography[edit]
Mooten was introduced to the Bahá’í Faith by Seewoosumbur Jeehoba Appa and declared in Vacoas in 1959. He served on the Local Spiritual Assembly of Vacoas after becoming a Bahá’í.[1] In 1967 he represented the Bahá’ís of the Indian Ocean at the Intercontinental Conference for Africa in Kampala, Uganda.[2]
In 1969 Mooten was appointed as an Auxiliary Board member for Africa and he traveled extensively in the role visiting Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Madagascar, Reunion Island, the Seychelles, South Africa, and Rodrigues Island.[1] During the 1970's he served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Mauritius for approximately two years and he represented the National Spiritual Assembly at a meeting with the Prime Minister of Mauritius in 1978.[3]
Mooten was able to go on pilgrimage to the Holy Land and also visited the Holy Land in 1992 to attend the commemoration of the Centenary of Bahá’u’lláh and in 2001 to attend the inauguration of the International Teaching Centre Building.[1] At some point he was reappointed as an Auxiliary Board member and he completed his service in the role in 2001. After his term as Board member ended he continued to serve by tutoring books of the Ruhi Institute.[4]
