The National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of South Pacific Ocean was a regional administrative body responsible for the Bahá’í communities in the Gilbert and Ellice Islands, Nauru, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and the Cook Islands.
History[edit]
In 1953, the island groups were assigned to other National Assemblies. The National Spiritual Assembly of the Pacific Islands was formed in 1959 replacing the delegation of island groups to individual National Assemblies.[1] The National Assembly of the Pacific Islands was split in 1964. The first National Spiritual Assembly of the South Pacific Ocean was elected in April 1964 at a Convention held at its seat in Suva, Fiji.[2][3]
In 1965 the South Pacific Convention, at which the Assembly was elected, was held in Nuku'alofa, Tonga, for the first time.[4] In 1967, the National Spiritual Assembly of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands was formed and Nauru was assigned to the National Assembly for development.
In 1970, the National Spiritual Assembly of Samoa, the National Spiritual Assembly of Fiji and the National Spiritual Assembly of Tonga and the Cook Islands were formed.[5] The National Spiritual Assembly of the South Pacific Ocean was dissolved.
