The National Spiritual Assembly of Kiribati and Tuvalu represented the countries of Kiribati and Tuvalu. Kiribati was formed primarily from the Gilbert Islands and Tuvalu was formed from the Ellice Islands in the South Pacific.
Formed[edit]
The Gilbert and Ellice Islands came under the jurisdiction of the National Spiritual Assembly of the South Pacific Islands, which was formed in 1959.[1] This Assembly was dissolved in 1964, with the Gilbert and Ellice Islands being assigned to the National Spiritual Assembly of the South Pacific Ocean.[2] In 1967, an independent National Spiritual Assembly was formed for the Gilbert and Ellice Islands.[3] Its name was later changed to the National Spiritual Assembly of Kiribati and Tuvalu when both countries adopted their present names. It was dissolved in 1981 with the formation of independent National Spiritual Assemblies for Kiribati and the Tuvalu.
