History[edit]

The National Spiritual Assembly of North West Africa was formed in Tunis, Tunisia, in 1956.[1] It was responsible for administrating the Faith in the British Cameroons, British Togoland, Gold Coast, Madeira, Sierra Leone, the Ashanti Protectorate, the French Cameroons and the Gambia.[2]

In 1964 the Assembly was reconstituted due to new Assemblies forming responsible for areas previously under its jurisdiction, and it assumed responsibility for administrating the Faith in Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Spanish Sahara, Rio de Oro, Mauritania, the Canary Islands and Madeira.[3] The seat of the National Spiritual Assembly remained in Tunis until 1967 when the National Assembly of Algeria and Tunisia was formed and the seat of the Assembly was moved to Rabat, Morocco.[4]

As of 1982 there was a National Spiritual Assembly of Morocco based in Rabat, superseding the North West Africa Assembly, however it is not clear when the change took place.[5]
