The National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Ethiopia is the administrative body responsible for the Bahá’í community of Ethiopia.
History[edit]
The empire of Abyssinia was the historical name the region that is now primarily Ethiopia and Eritrea that existed from the 13th century until 1974. It was one of the longest lasting empires in history. The name Ethiopia was used by the people of the region for centuries. The use of the name Ethiopia became common after World War II. Ethiopia was one of the founding members of the United Nations.
The National Spiritual Assembly of Ethiopia was founded in 1975 when the Universal House of Justice renamed the National Spiritual Assembly of North East Africa, although the only difference between the two bodies is that Somalia was removed from its jurisdiction leaving the new Ethiopian Assembly also responsible for the Bahá’ís of Eritrea and Libya.[1]
