Bahá’í Books U.K. is the official literature arm of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of the United Kingdom. It was created from the Bahá’í Publishing Trust, which was the publishing and distribution arm first of the N.S.A. of the British Isles, and then of the United Kingdom. When the N.S.A. of the U.K. decided to withdraw from publishing Bahá’í books, the name was changed to Bahá’í Books U.K. For many years, the Publishing Trust/B.B.U.K. was operated from Oakham, in Rutland, but in 2012 the distribution operation was moved to Buckinghamshire, and it was then run on a voluntary basis. The National Spiritual Assembly tried to create a distribution system which did not require a central stock of books, but concluded that this was not practical.
Bahá’í Books U.K. has an efficient website, which shows an image of each book, gives details, and also shows the current number of copies in stock. This is useful, because in order to be run on a voluntary basis, without a proper warehouse, the stock levels need to be kept low. Books held include items published by George Ronald, Bahá’í International Community, Bahá’í Publications Australia, One World, Bahá’í Publishing Trust, India, and by publishers in the United States.
The new physical arrangements do not allow for stocks of items such as leaflets to be held, and enquirers are referred to Warwick Bahá’í Bookshop for this type of literature. The website also clearly directs customers to the appropriate sources for items such as Study circle and junior youth workbooks.
A few items used for teaching and proclamation purposes, certain small prayer books and Study circle books are subject to special financial arrangements from the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of the United Kingdom, to keep the price low, and have to be sold at a fixed price to U.K. customers only. Customers from overseas are offered them at a commercially appropriate price.
