George Ronald Publisher is a book publisher based in England which focuses on publishing Bahá'í literature. It primarily publishes English language works, although some books in other languages and translations of English works into other languages have also been published. Its publications have covered a vast array of subjects related to the Faith ranging from study of scripture to business ethics.
History[edit]
George Ronald was founded in England by David Hofman in 1943. Bernard Leach designed the George Ronald logo. George Ronald published works intermittently until 1947 when through consultation with Shoghi Effendi and the National Spiritual Assembly of the British Isles it became a full-time business. Post-war rationing hampered George Ronald, but commissions from Shoghi Effendi allowed it to continue operating.
In the 1940s and 1950s George Ronald published some literature unrelated to the Faith as well as Bahá'í works, but later began to publish solely Bahá'í material. The publisher briefly relocated to Wales in the 1950s, but later returned to England.[1] In 1963 David Hofman was elected to the Universal House of Justice and had to step down from his work with George Ronald to serve on the Institution.
While remaining a small business the publisher has continued to grow, widening the variety of Bahá'í material it publishes. From 1963 to 2013 three hundred books have been published by George Ronald.[2]
