Junior youth are adolescent young people who fall roughly between the ages of eleven and fifteen. The Universal House of Justice has attached great importance to this age group, describing them as a “special group with special needs, as they are somewhat in between childhood and youth.”[1] As Bahá'u'lláh fixed the fifteenth year of age as the age of spiritual maturity, young people older than fifteen years old (and younger than twenty-one, when they gain voting rights) are considered as youth.
Because of the emphasis placed on the needs of junior youth, the Ruhi Institute includes a book on this topic in its main sequence of training institute courses, in fifth position. This book has now been published in English, and is viewed as crucial in training "animators" for junior youth groups.
A series of books is now being developed for the animators to use with Junior Youth Groups, including:
- Breezes of Confirmation
- Glimmerings of Hope
- Thinking About Numbers
- Spirit of Faith
- Walking the Straight Path
- Drawing on the Power of the Word
- Learning About Excellence
