- Ibn-i-Asdaq is granted the title Shahíd Ibn-i-Shahíd (Martyr, son of the martyr) by Bahá'u'lláh.
- Mírzá `Alí-Muhammad Varqá is arrested in Yazd and sent to Isfahán.
- A number of Bahá'í leaders are arrested in Tihrán and sentenced to death, however they are released nineteen months later.
