- ‘Abdu’l-Bahá visits Beirut, having been invited by Midhat Páshá, the Válí of Syria.
- March 12: Hájí Siyyid Muhammad-Hasan, the `King of Martyrs', and Hájí Siyyid Muhammad-Husayn, the `Beloved of Martyrs' are arrested on the orders of Shaykh Muhammad-Báqir, who owes them a large amount of money.
- March 17: Hájí Siyyid Muhammad-Hasan and Hájí Siyyid Muhammad-Husayn are executed on the orders of Shaykh Muhammad-Báqir.
- June 20: Mishkín-Qalam receives permission to leave Famagusta, Cyprus, and moves to Nicosia.
