1881 was a common year of the Gregorian calendar and a common year of the Julian calendar, the 1881st year of the Common Era (CE), the 81st year of the 19th century, and the 2nd year of the 1880s decade. As of the start of 1881, the Gregorian calendar was 12 days ahead of the Julian calendar, which remained in localized use until 1923. 1881 corresponds to the years 37–38 of the Bahá'í Era (BE) according to the Badi calendar.

Ridván Garden near 'Akká
  • The Ridván Garden and the Firdaws Garden are purchased on Bahá'u'lláh's behalf.
  • Amínu’l-Bayán is martyred in Ádhirbáyján. Hájí Amín succeeds him as Trustee of the Huqúqu'lláh.
  • March 24: Mírzá Yahyá is freed by the British administration of Cyprus. He makes a request for British citizenship which is denied.
