She was an active member of the Tehran Bahá’í community in her youth and met Húshang Mahmúdí through youth activities and they married in October 1947 while she was studying physics at Tehran University.[1]
In 1951 Mahmúdí completed a masters degree in atmospheric sciences and meteorology and she had two children. She began a career in meteorology and eventually became the head of the Atmospheric and Climate Research Department of Iran, Director-General of Iran's Department of Meteorology, and co-founded the Iranian School of Meteorology serving as its President in addition to lecturing at Tehran University. Her services to the field of meteorology in Iran resulted in her being awarded the Royal Medal of Iran and she also served several humanitarian organizations such as the Women's Liberation Organization, the Zonta Club, and the Dayhim Peace Committee. By the late 1970's Mahmúdí was eligible for retirement however she was denied retirement as her services were considered indispensable to the country.[1]
In addition to her professional and humanitarian pursuits Mahmúdí was also an active Bahá’í serving on the Committee for the Advancement of Women in Tehran. In 1955 she pioneered to Kirman with her family for one year before returning to Tehran and in 1961 they pioneered to Narmak where they helped establish a Local Spiritual Assembly and they helped strengthen the community until returning to Tehran in 1967. Mahmúdí was elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly of Tehran after returning to the city and served as secretary until 1971 when she pioneered to Gawhar-Dasht with her husband and son and they helped establish a Local Spiritual Assembly.[2]
In 1977 Mahmúdí was appointed as an Auxiliary Board member and assigned the responsibility of Tehran, Hamadan, and western Iran. In 1978 the political situation in Iran began to deteriorate with persecution of the Bahá’í community escalating and the Mahmúdí's returned to Tehran that year to serve the community. In 1979 she was dismissed from her professional positions due to being a Bahá’í and had her pension denied.[3] In 1980 Counsellor Masíh Farhangí was imprisoned and Mahmúdí assumed many of his responsibilities and on August 21 her husband was abducted at a National Spiritual Assembly meeting and never seen again.[4]
After the abduction of the National Spiritual Assembly a new Assembly was formed and Mahmúdí was elected to the body also continuing to serve as Board member due to the situation in Iran. On December 13, 1981, she was arrested with seven other members of the Assembly and she was executed by firing squad on December 27.[4] She was survived by her three children, her mother, a brother, and a sister.[5]
