The Goal of a New World Order
The Goal of a New World Order is a letter written by Shoghi Effendi on November 28, 1931.[1] The title was chosen by Horace Holley.[2] It was published in the 1938 compilation The World Order of Bahá’u’lláh which remains in print to the present.
Regarding the purpose of the letter a letter written on Shoghi Effendi's behalf shortly after its release states:
"Shoghi Effendi wrote his last general letter to the Western friends because he felt that the public should be made to understand the attitude the Bahá'í Faith maintains towards prevailing economic and political problems. We would let the world know what the real aim of Bahá'u'lláh was."[3]
Shoghi Effendi associated it with the Tenth Anniversary of the Ascension of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá and Rúḥíyyih Khánum described it as outlining the condition of the world and the changes which must be made to its functioning based on the principles of the Bahá’í Faith.[4] Shahriar Razavi has noted that the letter can be regarded as providing a model for applying Bahá’í principles to contemporary issues.[3]
