Tarija is a city in Bolivia.

History[edit]

Tarija was opened to the Bahá’í Faith in 1943 when a Bolivian, the fifth Bolivian to become a Bahá’í, pioneered to the city aiming to teach the religion.[1]

A Bahá’í community was firmly established in the city in the late 1960's when Rezsi Sunshine pioneered,[2] with her efforts resulting in the establishment of a Local Spiritual Assembly in 1967.[3][4] Shortly after the Assembly was established American Bahá’í youth Steve Blair and Greg Dahl briefly visited the city on a teaching trip.[5]

In the late 1980's Bahá’ís teaching in the Chaco region of Bolivia met with Bolivians who considered themselves Bahá’ís, having been introduced to the religion in Tarija by Rezsi Sunshine, despite not having contact with the Bahá’í community since.[6]
