Sunshine was born Regina Szabolcsi in Oradea, Romania, in 1885 into a Jewish family with her father being a Rabbi.[1] Little is known about her early life but she emigrated to the United States of America in approximately 1901 where she settled in New York City and worked as a seamstress. She met Jean Silver in New York and became a Bahá’í through her.[2]
In 1938 Sunshine pioneered to Arkansas to support efforts of the American Bahá’í community under the Seven Year Plan and she taught in Hot Springs and Little Rock. In 1955 she pioneered to Bolivia during the Ten Year Crusade and settled in Cochabamba helping the community establish a Local Spiritual Assembly the following year. She pioneered to Paraguay in 1959 and lived at several pioneer posts in the country. While in Paraguay she helped establish the Local Spiritual Assembly of Concepcion and served on the National Spiritual Assembly.[2]
In 1963 Sunshine returned to Bolivia where she settled in Tarija helping establish a Local Spiritual Assembly in 1967 and in January 1970 she pioneered to Argentina settling at San Luis. She passed away in Argentina a few months later.[3] The Universal House of Justice conveyed the following message after her passing:
