House of Justice[edit]
Where on earth does anyone legitimately suggest that the number of seats in the House of Justice "might increase to nineteen?" 73.2.63.157 15:03, 16 September 2020 (PDT)
Dear Whoever,
I am afraid that this was based on an incorrect interpretation of the purpose of the number of offices built in the rooms in the Seat of the Universal House of Justice. It is my opinion that this was a complete misunderstanding. The offices are used by members of the Universal House of Justice and their Personal Assistants. The conclusion jumped to is not warranted by any evidence, and in my opinion, this statement should be removed.
Thank you, Southamite.
Thank you, David.
- Re; offices, this may have been the reason for it being put in the article, but Mr. Nakhjavani has confirmed that the number of House members may increase to nineteen. It is based on a verse in the Kitab-i-Aqdas and an authoritative interpretation by 'Abdu'l-Baha (likely untranslated). See pages 249 to 251 of 'The Range and Power of his Pen': https://bahai-library.com/pdf/n/nakhjavani_range_power_pen.pdf
- Relevant excerpt: "Another distinction is that the world legislature (the Universal House of Justice) will be small enough to make the decisionmaking process quick and easy. Whereas the members of modern parliaments can number many hundreds of people, Bahá’u’lláh has written, ‘The Lord hath ordained that in every city a House of Justice be established wherein shall gather counselors to the number of Bahá, and should it exceed this number it doth not matter’ (KA ¶30) In His interpretation of this verse, ‘Abdu’lBahá has said that the number of members of the Universal House of Justice could be 19. This is a decision that only the Universal House of Justice can take.
